Navis at METS 2007Navis Engineeing at METS 2007: two steps forward
Navis Engineering Oy, which took part at the METS exhibition in Amsterdam exhibiting in the SuperYacht Pavillion (booth EF 049), has recently introduced several new functions into its Navis JP3000 Joystick Pilot system for mega-yachts.
The first one of the two new functions is called “Anchor Watch”. The idea is to automatically hold a yacht within a set area. Having arrived at a certain point, the captain simply sets the current position and enters into the system the radius of the circle within which the yacht will be positioned. All the propulsion is switched to the Stand-by Mode, and the yacht starts to drift. When the yacht crosses the boundary of the set area, the system automatically kicks in and propels the yacht back to the center of the circle, where the propulsion is again switched back to the Stand-by Mode.
With this function, there is no need to drop anchor during stops of up to twelve-fifteen hours. Another benefit is that, by keeping the yacht in a limited area automatically, it saves fuel.
The second function is called “Hold Position”. This completely automatic position keeping mode maintains the yacht in a selected position with high accuracy. Fore, aft and athwarship forces from propellers, rudders and thrusters are commanded by the JP3000 to keep the vessel in a preset position.

The Navis JP3000 Joystick Pilot system has been designed as a flexible alternative to installing a DP system on a medium-sized yacht when there is no need to comply with a certain Class which requires a DP system onboard.
The system comprises a powerful DNV-approved autopilot and a joystick control system. Using the 3-axis joystick, the yacht can be manually positioned with great accuracy.
