Navis has supplied a dynamic positioning system to EstoniaIn the middle of February, Navis, together with the Estonian company Ou Mere Elektroonik, successfully completed the installation of its Navis IVCS dynamic positioning system of the DP-O Class on an icebreaker-type vessel EVA316 in the port of Talinn.
The installed system is the first DP system produced by Navis to have been supplied to a former Soviet republic, and, at the same time, Navis’ 50th DP system supplied since 2001.
EVA316 is a retrofit icebreaker-type vessel functioning as an icebreaker in the winter period; in the summer period EVA316 acts as an oil boom and fairway beacon handling vessel. The propulsion of the vessel consists of two Z-drive propulsion units. Navis’ DP system installed allows EVA316 to freely maneuver in the horizontal plane and to fully control the course steered. The system also makes it possible to effectively stabilize the vessel in a set point, though the owning company is only planning to install a bow thruster on EVA316. Besides, Navis IVCS DP system works in the autopilot mode and makes it possible to follow a set track. |
